About this test
The Total Bilirubin test measures bilirubin levels in the blood to assess liver function and detect jaundice.

The Total Bilirubin test is a blood test used to measure the total amount of bilirubin, a yellow pigment produced during the breakdown of red blood cells.

Bilirubin is processed by the liver and excreted in bile. Elevated levels may indicate liver disease, bile duct obstruction, hemolytic anemia, or other conditions affecting bilirubin metabolism.

This test includes both direct (conjugated) and indirect (unconjugated) bilirubin and is commonly part of liver function tests (LFTs). It is used to evaluate jaundice, liver health, and related disorders.

Test Recommended For

  • Individuals with yellowing of skin or eyes
  • Patients with suspected liver disease
  • People with symptoms like fatigue or dark urine
  • Newborns with jaundice
  • Patients advised for liver function testing
