About this test
The PSA (Prostate Specific Antigen) Total test measures PSA levels in the blood to help screen for prostate disorders, including prostate enlargement and cancer.

The PSA – Prostate Specific Antigen (Total) test is a blood test used to measure the level of PSA, a protein produced by the prostate gland. PSA is normally present in small amounts in the blood, but levels may increase in certain prostate conditions.

Elevated PSA levels can be associated with prostate enlargement (benign prostatic hyperplasia), inflammation (prostatitis), or prostate cancer. This test is widely used for screening, early detection, and monitoring of prostate-related conditions.

The PSA test is also used to monitor treatment effectiveness in patients diagnosed with prostate cancer and to check for recurrence after treatment.

The purpose of this test is to

  • To measure PSA levels in the blood
  • To screen for prostate disorders
  • To help detect prostate cancer
  • To monitor prostate health
  • To evaluate treatment response
